Who are we?
Storm Surge is a non-profit community organization based in Newburyport, MA. The group was founded in 2013 as the threat to our coastline from sea-level rise was starting to become a recurring problem to our community. To address the coastal issues of climate change, we promote science-based outreach and education to encourage local municipalities to prepare for the impacts of sea level rise and other climate change impacts.
We have organized beach clean-ups, presentations to area citizens and elected officials and invited experts in coastal Massachusetts to present and discuss their insights with the public. We have recently created original content in video format for use by schools to educate students on climate change, our marsh and the post-glacial history of our coastal geology, .
Our growing group of volunteers is engaged in many aspects of our mission. We hope that understanding the underlying causes and effects of climate change will lead you and our community to take the necessary steps for our children’s future.
