  • Newburyport Senior/Community Center 331 High Street Newburyport, MA, 01950 United States (map)

Katie Giannakopoulos, Coastal Dynamics Research Associate at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, will discuss the projected impact of 1.5 feet of sea level rise in the Gulf of Maine by 2050.

How will this change affect flood risks to local coastal infrastructure and ecosystems? This talk will explore the science of sea level rise, why the Gulf of Maine is warming faster than most other ocean regions, the forces driving coastal storms and their unique effects on this area, and the adaptive strategies Gulf of Maine communities are employing to address these challenges.
